ROCK STAR OF SORTS

He had gone to see Paul Thomas Anderson’s Punch Drunk Love, but when a trailer for the forthcoming Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers began, one of his own compositions boomed out in surround sound. It was a version of Lux Aeterna, a piece he had written when “at a particularly low ebb in New York”, and which Aronofsky had used in his film Requiem for a Dream.
“It blew my mind!” Mansell says. “It sounded incredible. I kept looking around to see if anyone else was listening to it, but everyone else was talking.”
